SPG’s Behavior Intervention team supports students, classrooms, and school-based professionals by promoting student empowerment through skill-building and choice-making within trusting relationships.
Technical Support
Behavior Technicians (BTs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) provide one-on-one or classroom support under the supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA/BCaBA). They implement students’ educational and behavioral plans. BCBAs/BCaBAs supervise at least 5% of R/BT hours to enhance clinical skills through training, problem-solving, and performance evaluation. R/BTs also attend monthly group meetings on topics such as self-determination, respecting students’ assent and assent withdrawal, and collaborating with other school-based professionals.
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
BCBAs conduct FBAs to understand the reasons behind behaviors of concern. This process involves interviews, rating scales, record reviews, and observations to identify behavior triggers. The FBA results guide the creation of behavior intervention plans, which include strategies to decrease problem behaviors and teach replacement behaviors that meet the same needs more effectively.
Student-Specific Consultation
BCBAs observe students and offer tiered intervention recommendations, such as classroom consultations or individualized behavior support plans. In special education, they build team capacity to create effective behavior plans through coaching, data collection, and function-aligned strategies.
Classroom Consultation
In both general and special education, BCBAs collaborate with teachers using motivational interviewing to identify areas for improvement and adopt evidence-based practices. They support classroom management strategies and culturally inclusive practices. Teachers receive ongoing feedback, modeling, and coaching to ensure successful implementation.
