Navigating Schools
If you’re starting out in the field and entering your Clinical Fellowship (CF) year, SPG is here to set you up for success. Read on to learn what the start of your journey as a CF with SPG may look like.
Before You Start
» Even before you graduate, we are here to help familiarize you with your state licensing/credentialing requirements.
» We’ll spend time understanding your goals and preferences to match you with a school site based on your priorities. For example, how far are you willing to commute? Which population(s) of students are you looking to work with?
» Congrats, grad! For now, celebrate your accomplishments and enjoy your time off before your first day onsite. Once your assignment begins, we’ll be here to provide you the support and resources that you need!
Getting Started
» You’ll have the opportunity to participate in a series of SPG-hosted trainings, which focus on successfully navigating schools, writing legally defensible reports, Ed code, and honoring cultural and linguistic diversity.
» You will connect with your local support team to receive all of your first day details and gain access to tools that will help you navigate your start. You’ll spend time with your supervisor learning the ropes: setting up your schedule, meeting your team, and creating an IEP calendar.
» We’ll provide all the materials you need: laptops, assessment kits, protocols, therapy materials, and more. We have you covered!
Your First Week
» During your first week, you will likely get acquainted with your site(s), get a copy of the bell schedule, and start to meet your students.
» Your CF supervisor will be available to support you – no question is too small!
» You’ll also be added to the Compass Program where you’ll gain access to curated resources, real-time community support, and clinical deep-dives!
Your First Year As An SLP
» Utilizing SPG’s extensive resource library, you’ll establish your organizational systems to effectively manage your caseload, evaluations, and treatment planning.
» At SPG, you’ll have layers of support to help you develop your professional network and community.
» By the end of the school year, you’ll look back on your experience and be amazed at the knowledge and confidence you’ve gained!
